Winter Lovin’: Cold-Weather Dates in Kimberley BC

There’s something special about reconnecting with a loved one amidst a background of snow-capped trees, frosty mountains and twinkling lights. Turn up the heat with some high-octane winter adventure, relax into romance while wandering the great outdoors, or explore Kimberley’s warm and artistic side with live music and gallery-gazing. Cold temperatures don’t mean icy demeanors around here, and we’ve got plenty of winter-ready date ideas to spark some flames and make memories with the one you love most.

The Adventurous Couple

For those who like to raise their heart rate and keep active on a romantic outing, find fun and adventure on our trails, at our ski hill, or while soaking in an off-the-beaten path hot spring.

DO

  • Spend the day zooming down North Star Mountain at the Kimberley Alpine Resort. Eager beavers can get an early start to the day by skinning up the designated Up-Track route and taking in the sunrise from the Kootenay Haus, while speed-demons find fun lapping the 80+ runs all day long with the help of the 3 chairlifts at the Resort
  • Around here, mountain biking isn’t just reserved for the summer months. Kimberley’s trail crews and volunteers work hard to provide well-maintained and groomed trails for all to enjoy year-round. Bike rentals can be found at the Kimberley Alpine Resort Rental Shop, Blackdog Cycle & Ski, and Bootleg Bike Co., and trail maps can be picked up at the Kimberley Visitor Centre
  • If ice-skating is more your thing, head to St. Mary Lake for a fun afternoon spent gliding across the frozen water surrounded by the Purcell Mountains. After your skate, enjoy a bonfire on the beach at the Day Use Area, and make your spouse a s’more to re-fuel after your fun day out. Tip: Don’t forget to ensure the ice is safe for skating before heading out
  • After a day spent finding adventure in the frosty outdoors, warm things up with some hot water and good conversation. Head back to your accommodation to enjoy the hot tub there, or strike out a little further to enjoy some natural hot springs in our surrounding communities. For further out adventure, head to Lussier Hot Springs near Whiteswan Provincial Park. For a more developed option, day-trip a little further to Fairmont or Radium Hot Springs

EAT

  • Cheers to a great day on the slopes while grooving to live music in the Stemwinder Bar & Grill, or head downtown for a Kimberley-style pub-crawl at our two local breweries, Grist & Mash and Overtime Beer Works
  • If visiting here over the weekend, keep the spice coming by enjoying the Friday Night Indian Buffet at Charcoal Restaurant & Sports Bar
  • If getting saucy is more your thing, head to The Shed for some house-smoked BBQ, local BC beers, and a laid-back atmosphere

STAY

  • Stay close to the action by settling into the comfy confines of the Trickle Creek Lodge. Located at the base of the Kimberley Alpine Resort, the Trickle Creek Lodge is a few steps from the slopes and less than a black away from many of our groomed fat-biking trails. Take advantage of the free Ski Shuttle that travels between the Ski Hill and Kimberley’s downtown Platzl, or choose to explore our downtown core by strolling along the Peak-to-Patzl connector trail

The Laid-Back Couple

This just in: while we love a heart-racing and exhilarating adventure with our loved one, we also love dates that are laid-back, no-stress, and leave us with a sense of calm and connection all the way through.

DO

  • Glide along the pristine and groomed trails at the Kimberley Nordic Club, or strike out on the picturesque cross-country trails near St. Mary Lake. Gear can be rented directly from the Kiosk at the Nordic Club
  • Cultivate some heat with your loved one during a private or community sauna session with Kamu Sauna. This sauna company brings the traditional nordic practice of sauna to our beautiful corner of South-Eastern BC and promises a relaxing and rejuvenating day for all
  • For those who like to connect with wildlife, spend the day bird-watching or ice fishing along one of our local waterways. Expect to see woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, grouse, grosbeaks, and crossbills, or try your luck with the nibbling trout in our mountain lakes

EAT

  • Start your day with great coffee, good food, and better company with your loved one. The morning fares at Deer Park Diner offer everything from classic breakfast favourites to trendy, international dishes, and boozy milkshakes. Need we go on?
  • For dinner, head over to Biscuit: A Place to Sup for their uber-local rotating menu, expansive wine list, and cozy atmosphere. We recommend sharing a few of their signature dishes and saving room for one of their scrumptious desserts
  • Looking for a night-cap? Enjoy craft cocktails and a lively atmosphere at our local distillery, Bohemian Spirits. This is a great spot to have quiet conversation with your sweetie, or take in a fun event with locals and visitors alike

STAY

  • Settle into comfort and relaxation at Mountain Spirit Resort. Some of our favourite features here include the indulgent soaker tubs, the heated pool and hot tub, and the close proximity to the Nordic trails and the Kimberley Alpine Resort. Be sure to take in the alpenglow on the Canadian Rockies from your suite each night, and cheers to a romantic getaway done right

The Artistic Couple

Our vibrant music scene, seasonal events, artisan creations, and beautiful art galleries add something special to any romantic getaway here. For couples who thrive in the arts and music scene, look no further!

DO

  • Start your trip with a gallery-crawl of all of our favourite aesthetic haunts. The Laundromat features local Canadian artists, while Centre 64 has rotating exhibitions to highlight a wide variety of artists, themes and styles. Be sure to also check out the workshops on offer at Centre 64, and inquire about upcoming live music in their Studio 64 space
  • Next, set your sights on some artisanal shopping to stock up on locally-made and beautifully-crafted Kimberley wares. Some of our favourite finds here include the blown-glass creations from Mountain Grass & Glass, the intricate jewellery from Tumbled Earth, and the handmade ceramics from Dirt Light Shadow. For music-specific goods, check out the vinyl selection at Arrow & Axe, or head to Ray’s Music for musical equipment and instrument browsing
  • Don’t forget to include a healthy amount of live music into your romantic visit here. Live music can be found every Wednesday and Saturday evening at Charcoal Restaurant & Sports Bar, every Thursday night at Grist & Mash, every Friday and Saturday night at Stonefire Pizzeria, and throughout the winter at the Stemwinder Bar & Grill at the Kimberley Alpine Resort. We encourage all of our musical couples to hit the dance floor and groove late into the evening with their honey

EAT

  • Before heading out on your gallery-crawl, grab a roasted-in-Kimberley coffee from Kickturn Coffee and a freshly-milled baked good from Bread & Butter
  • For dinner, share small plates and expertly curated craft cocktails at The Hourglass, or head over to Stonefire Pizzeria to enjoy napoleon-style pizza alongside live entertainment and a fun crowd
  • Jonesing to finish the night with something sweet for your sweetie? Enjoy homemade chocolates and scrumptious mousse cakes from Grow Cake & Chocolates

STAY

  • Just a few steps away from our downtown core lies the historic and cozy Larix Hotel. The Larix will ensure you’re close to all the music, art, and locally created wares that Kimberley has to offer, and includes many personal touches to make your stay extra special
