Destination Platzl: The Ins & Outs of Our Iconic Downtown Core
If you’ve been to Kimberley, you’ve likely wandered through the picturesque, cobblestone streets of our signature downtown core, The Platzl. The Platzl is our pedestrian-only main street and the true heart of our community. It is easily accessed by strollers or wheelchair users and features over 50 eateries, drinkeries, shops, and art galleries. Perks of exploring our Platzl include: learning local history at the Kimberley Heritage Museum, saying “hi” to Happy Hans at the World’s Largest Free-Standing Cuckoo Clock, discovering our artistic side, and getting familiar with all of the shops and eateries that make our downtown core such a fun spot to be.

Attractions
From our humble mining beginnings, the town of Kimberley has transformed into a true four-season destination that continues to salute our roots as we grow. We continue to celebrate our past as a real working town in the attractions and sights that tell our story, highlight the natural beauty of the area, and nod to our history. Sprinkle these attractions throughout any downtown visit, and get ready to fill your vacation with a healthy mix of history, wonder, and fun.
- Happy Hans Cuckoo Clock. Built in the 1970s by Bill Spence and Dick Bova, the Happy Hans Cuckoo Clock was constructed as a labour of love to help set Kimberley apart. While we’ve since shed our Bavarian ways, we still like to have a laugh, share a past memory, and clink beer steins with our beloved mascot, Happy Hans, every now and then. Put a toonie in the Clock to catch a glimpse of Mr. Happy Hans himself
- Kimberley Heritage Museum. This non-profit Museum is located on the top floor of the Kimberley Public Library and showcases local stories, historical artifacts, and a rotating feature exhibit. With over 10,000 artifacts and over 11,000 historical pictures, the Kimberley Heritage Museum is a must-see for any visitor. A small fee is required to enter the Heritage Museum, with all admissions helping to support the Kimberley District Heritage Society
- The Kimberley Veteran Memorial Park. What once was a former gas station, has now been converted into a beautiful green space that commemorates our veterans and their participation in the World Wars and peacekeeping missions. The Kimberley Veteran Memorial Park came to fruition in 2017 and has become a centrepiece in the community. This is a place to pause during your tour, have a seat, and soak up a little silence before reentering our vibrant Platzl
- Mark Creek. Mark Creek flows right alongside our downtown core and adds some scenic beauty to our surroundings all throughout the year. Work began in 2012 to rehabilitate and naturalize the Mark Creek channel, and this town waterway has now become a favourite feature to gaze upon for locals and visitors alike
