Autumn in Kimberley: 6 Reasons to Fall for Fall Here

Before the snow flies, Kimberley is transformed by golden hillsides and crisp moments. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy alpine hikes through yellowing trees in the mountains, uncrowded trails in our trail networks, and plenty of sunshine and blue skies up above. Marvel in our “larch madness,” clink beer steins at Oktoberfest, and discover what makes fall such a special time to visit.

  1. Golden Views

Kimberley is home to British Columbia’s largest municipal park, and one of the largest Subalpine Larch strands in North America. Whether you opt to enjoy the extensive swath of Western Larch from the comfort of Kimberley’s city limits, or choose to head to the Rocky or Purcell Mountains instead, you’re sure to find plenty of golden roads to wander along the way. Our suggestion? Enjoy an all-level stroll beneath towering larch trees in the Kimberley Nordic Centre, then don’t forget to save time for a scenic drive, hike, or bike in our further-out mountain ranges.

Before striking out on your chosen larch outing, be sure to familiarise yourself with all of our know-before-you-go suggestions, and stop by the Kimberley Visitor’s Centre for hard-copies of trail maps or detailed driving directions. For more inspiration on hiking your way through our golden hillsides, check out our Hiking Through Kimberley’s Gilded Forests Story.

  2. Shoulder Season Perks

From golf deals, to savings on stays, to no waitlist at your favourite Kimberley restaurant, the off season is officially ON this year. During the fall months, visitors can enjoy a more relaxed pace of travel, without sacrificing the best that Kimberley has to offer. Looking for a little direction? Keep an eye on our memorable seasonal events, strike out for a day-trip to Fort Steele Heritage Town, then slow down for a day or two of downtown discovering, art gallery hopping, and feasting or sipping on our delicious eats, treats, and home-brewed libations.

  3. Trail Time

There’s a window we enter each fall when our local trails reach their perfect post-summer conditions. Less summer dust, quiet trails, and a little golden magic along every berm? Sign us up! When riding (or hiking, or running) through our trail networks this fall, expect less summer heat on each climb you tackle, more dramatic yellow foliage in every direction, and, very likely, more wildlife than people on our unpaved paths. There’s a reason that “fall time is all time” on the trails here.

  1. Golf Glory

Green greens, blue skies, and rates so enticing you’ll be planning your fall golf getaway for years to come. Our 7 Kimberley Cranbrook Golf Courses offer the perfect mix of challenge and playability, all topped with a healthy dose of dramatic vistas and mountain views. Around here, many of our courses extend their season into mid-October or beyond, and the course conditions can’t be beat.

Once the season wraps, the golf stoke continues with Bootleg Gap Golf’s Virtual Indoor Golf experience. Open November to March, Bootleg Gap’s cutting-edge Golf Simulators place you on legendary courses, including the iconic Pebble Beach. Whether you’re joining our fall and winter leagues, perfecting your game with a lesson, or hosting a private event, you’ll find plenty of fun keeping your golf muscles flexed here.

  2. Sweater Weather

Cool in the evening, and temperate in the afternoon, fall weather is truly the best here in Kimberley. Before the snow flakes start to fall, we’re lucky to enjoy plenty of crisp moments and comfortable temperatures, with a few moody days thrown in the mix. Extend your favourite summer activities like biking, golfing and paddling into September and October, then look forward to some early-season snowy fun with the opening of Nordic Ski trails come November.

  3. Pumpkin Patch Perfection

Looking for a quintessential fall activity that the entire family will love? Spend the day picking pumpkins at a local farm. Lantz Farms is our favourite close-to-Kimberley farm stand, which provides us with fresh produce during the summer and fall, and the cutest pumpkin patch to pose with and pick from come September and October. Lantz Farms is open to the public daily from 8am to 7pm. Purchases are made on the honour system.

Looking for a more detailed plan for your autumn visit? Check out our curated Adventure-Seeking, Relaxed Traveller, and Family Fun itineraries, then pack your bags. When in doubt, extend your stay to soak in our hot springs, take in more of our downtown spirit, and enjoy a little extra fall flavour along the way.

For those already itching for their next stay here, set your sights on another season, and discover why there’s no bad time of year to make magic moments happen in Kimberley.
