24 Hours in Kimberley: Winter Edition
Road-tripping through the Powder Highway this winter? We hear a deliberate detour on Highway 95-A is exactly what your itinerary is missing. While we have enough local recommendations to keep you busy for a few weeks or more, a quick 24 hour stay in Kimberley is enough time to carve through some of our most memorable winter moments and get a taste for our cool-weather offerings. Drop into a full morning, noon and night of winter fun, then get ready to plan your next winter visit here.

Morning
- Do - Downtown Discovering
Get your bearings by wandering through our pedestrian-only downtown core, The Platzl. Here you’ll find unique keepsakes, practical gear and goods, and enough art galleries, museums and delicious bites to keep you busy for an entire morning or longer. For those looking for a little more structure to guide their downtown discovering, check out the self-guided Platzl Tour, and don’t forget to stop by the Visitor Centre for insider tips on our favourite spots
- Eat - Our Place
Fuel up for a busy day here with classic breakfast staples at long-time favourite, Our Place Restaurant. This breakfast and lunch joint is a no muss, no fuss, fill-you-up-and-leave-you-smiling kind of place that is sure to satisfy the entire family. Enjoy kid-friendly eats, generous portions, and a little history of our mining town roots along the way
- Drink - The Bean Tree
Looking for a little more caffeine to fuel your day? Across the way from Our Place, you’ll find The Bean Tree Cafe. A long-standing establishment in town, The Bean Tree offers piping hot teas, locally-sourced coffee blends, and enough small bites and sweet treats to line your pockets for the active afternoon to come

Noon
- Do - Get Outdoors
A winter afternoon here is best spent outdoors. When the temperatures are cool and the trails are firm, we love to cruise through our 50km of groomed winter trails via fat bike. Grab a bike rental downtown from Bootleg Bike Co. or Black Dog Cycle & Ski, or find your rental at the base of the Kimberley Alpine Resort in their Rental Shop. Not a biker? No worries! We love a gentle walk along the Marysville Falls any time of the year, and also highly recommend the Guided Snowshoe Tours offered through the Kimberley Alpine Resort
- Eat - Mountain Grass Gallery + Bistro
Pairing a healthy dose of outdoor activity with a healthy and delicious lunch just makes sense. We love heading to Mountain Grass Gallery + Bistro to enjoy their yummy wraps, homemade soups, and protein-packed smoothies. Plus, their shop has some of the most intricate and interesting Canada-made artwork around
- Drink - Stemwinder Bar & Grill
Word has it, all runs lead to the Stemwinder. This is the best spot for après cheer or pre-dinner camaraderie. Enjoy live music here most days of the week, keep an eye on skilled skiers and boarders ripping down the hill, and be sure to warm up with a decadent hot chocolate or two

Night
- Do - Cheer on the Home Team
Immerse yourself in Kimberley's community by cheering on our Junior B hockey team, the Kimberley Dynamiters. A hometown hockey game is a great way to support our amateur athletes, while taking in the amiable cheer of the crowd, and rubbing elbows with long-time locals who truly love being here. If you're lucky enough to line your trip up with a home game, we highly recommend snagging some tickets and checking out the action. Plus, we hear the beer is cheap, and the concession fries are always piping hot
- Eat - The Old Bauernhaus
Decadent flavours and feasts fit for a king? Sign us up! Set in a German farmhouse (circa. 1624.), The Old Bauernhaus is known for creative dishes, locally-sourced ingredients, attention to detail, and the most cozy atmosphere around. We highly recommend ordering The Bavarian Feast to make the most of your dining experience here. Don't forget to bring your appetite, and consider making a reservation beforehand
- Drink - UVA Wine Bar + Kitchen
The newest addition to Kimberley’s food and drink scene, UVA is an upscale spot for small plates, delicious wines, and an environment made for intimate conversations with friends and loved ones. Found in the beautifully renovated Larix hotel, UVA offers 24 premium wines by the glass and enough delicious bites to keep you satiated all night long

Before you Go
Not so fast, bucko! Though your time here might be coming to an end, that doesn’t mean you can’t sneak a little more Kimberley sustenance into your trip before you depart. If heading south: grab some snacks from our favourite gas station/organic grocery store, Stoke Market (trust us), then head to The Timber Hitch in the south Kimberley neighbourhood of Marysville to grab a coffee for the road. If heading north: grab a Platzl coffee from the Snowdrift Cafe or Kickturn Coffee, then pop by Bread & Butter for a hand-milled treat or two.
Hint: Don’t forget to browse some of our seasonal itineraries to grab a little year-round inspiration. We hear 24 hours in Kimberley throughout the rest of the year is just as fun.
